Mission Statement
The Workplace Research Foundation is a non-profit, organization which conducts research and provides education about working conditions in the USA. Our goal is to develop and disseminate accurate information about the human condition as it pertains to work – earning a living, developing a career, enhancing teamwork, improving working conditions, fostering good communication in the workplace, and ending employment discrimination.
The Workplace Research Foundation makes efforts in two related domains: research and education.
Research
Staff and affiliates collect and analyze information about workplace conditions and work practices in the United States. The centerpiece of this effort is the National Benchmark StudyTM (NBS), an ongoing collaboration between The Workplace Research Foundation and the University of Michigan. Research findings are disseminated on the web, and periodically submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals and at professional conferences. The Foundation’s research also informs Dr. Morrel-Samuels’ service as an expert witness before Congress and in legal cases.
Education
The goal of this effort is informing the public about the personal challenges and intrinsic rewards that work currently entails. As part of this work, The Workplace Research Foundation works in conjunction with EMPA, Incorporated to sponsor the EMPA Work Life Awards for the best film on working conditions screened at the annual Ann Arbor (Michigan) Film Festival. Other educational endeavors include writing articles for the popular press, presenting at non-professional conferences, and teaching seminars and courses in academic, business, or community settings.
